“Fore” Hurricane Katrina Relief Fundraiser
In response to the tragic national disasters that have ravaged
our country in the fall, the LPGA Urban Youth Golf Program of Delaware
partnered with The First Tee of Suburban Philadelphia to raise awareness
and funds to benefit the Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts.
On September 23rd, the LPGA UYGP and The First Tee of Suburban
Philadelphia hosted an 18-hole mini-golf tournament and bake sale
at the Eric MacCluen Golf Center in West Chester, PA. Golfers from
Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey joined together to support
our fellow Americans in their time of need.
The mini-golf tournament was a huge success with participants,
families and friends enjoying a fun night complete with golf, food,
raffle prizes, give away items, music and beautiful weather.
As a result of the generous contributions from many local sponsors
and participant’s donations, the event raised $2,500 for the
Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts. The funds raised were matched
dollar for dollar by The First Tee National Office’s Board
of Trustees. Therefore, $5,000 will be forwarded to the relief efforts.
“As teachers and mentors, it is encouraging to see our junior
golfers so adamant about this cause. It is rewarding to see that
the life skills we are teaching our junior golfers are being put
to practical use when our youth make a difference in the lives of
others through their compassionate efforts” explained Judy
Stout, LPGA UYGP Executive Director.
We wish to offer a special thanks to all participants, donors,
volunteers and sponsors who helped to make the event a huge success
and to all individuals who donated to the cause despite being unable
to attend the Hurricane Relief Fundraiser.
